Can a shopping assistant actually read your products?

Assistants and price aggregators do not open your product page and look at the photos. They read /products.json and the structured data in your HTML. We read the same two things and tell you, product handle by product handle, which attributes are missing.

Based on publicly available data only. Informational, not legal advice.

What this checks

  • Whether your public product feed (/products.json) can be read at all
  • Titles past Google Merchant Center's 150-character limit, or written as keyword lists
  • Descriptions that are empty, under 100 characters, or pasted straight out of Word
  • Missing product_type, vendor and tags — the fields aggregators group and filter on
  • Variants with no SKU and no shipping weight
  • Product structured data on sampled product pages: brand, offers, GTIN/MPN
  • Real multi-value variants still sitting under an option literally named “Title”

FAQ

Do I have to connect my store or install an app?
No. Everything in this report comes from URLs anyone can open in a browser: /products.json and two of your product pages. We never ask for a token and could not use one if you offered it.
Why do some rows say “could not tell”?
Three real limits. (1) The public product feed never exposes barcode/GTIN and usually not image alt text — those live in the Admin API, which needs your credentials. (2) We do not run JavaScript, so structured data injected by an app after page load is invisible to us — and, importantly, also invisible to crawlers that do not render. (3) We read at most 500 products (two pages of 250); a larger catalog is sampled, and we say so in the report.
If I fill all of this in, will AI assistants recommend my store?
No, and anyone promising that is guessing. What we can say is narrower and checkable: these are the fields a machine needs before it can match your product to a query at all. Missing them is a floor problem, not a ranking trick.
