After the move, did your old links survive — or quietly stop working?
A migration is judged by its redirects. We ask your store for the same page in several shapes a real link might use — http, www, bare domain, trailing slash, old-platform paths — and report where the answers disagree.
Based on publicly available data only. Informational, not legal advice.
What this checks
- Whether http://, www. and the bare domain all land on one canonical URL, in one hop
- How many redirect hops your live URLs take before they actually resolve
- Old-platform paths (/index.php, /shop, /catalog, /pages/about-us): mapped, or just 404
- Lazy redirects — old URLs dumped onto the homepage, which Google documents as a soft-404 pattern
- Whether a URL that cannot exist really answers with a 404 status code
- Duplicate twins: the same page reachable both with and without a trailing slash
- Whether your sitemap and your homepage rel=canonical agree on which domain is the real one
FAQ
What can this tool not see?
Only server-level redirects. We read the HTTP response as served and never run JavaScript, so a redirect done with window.location, or a route rewritten by an app after load, is invisible here. We also ask for at most 12 URLs per scan — that is a spot check on your redirect layer, not a full crawl of every old link you ever had.
All the old paths return 404. Is that bad?
It depends on whether you ever had an old site. If this store has always been on Shopify, a 404 on /index.php is the correct answer and we mark it accordingly rather than failing you. If you migrated from WooCommerce, Magento or BigCommerce, the same 404 means every inbound link and bookmark to those URLs is dead.
Why does one extra redirect hop matter?
Google's redirect documentation says Googlebot follows up to 10 hops in a chain before it gives up on the URL. Ten is the ceiling, not a target: every hop is an extra round trip your shopper waits for, and a chain that started at two hops tends to grow to four the next time someone edits a rule.
